Things I Wish Christians Would Stop Posting on Social Media

Sigh… it happened again today. Someone posted an article of an arm with a device Under the Skin, proclaiming it was the mark of the beast. I wondered if I should even try to say anything. I did let them know it was just a glucose monitor, and attached the appropriate documentation. Who knows if they’ll read it. When I was in college, it was Liz Claiborne’s. Apparently the CEO of Liz Claiborne had told Phil Donahue that she was high up in the church of Satan. Of course, it wasn’t true. Luckily for us, there was no Internet or social media yet. As a Christian with a graduate degree who works in a stem field, I hear all the time about how people like me are anti intellectual, uneducated, and simple minded. I know some of that is just gross generalization, intellectual laziness, and bias. However, here are a few things that Christians need to stop posting on social media. It just perpetuates the myth that we do not use our brains. Please read this list carefully, and feel free to like and share if you love Jesus.
- Medical Devices as the Mark of the Beast: Okay, seriously, these are so easy to just check out, people. Just because it looks like a microchip or has a bar code does not mean the Antichrist is preparing us for the Great Tribulation. Bob just needs to know when his sugar is low so that he can drink orange juice and prevent a coma! Or Sue needs her anti-nausea medication for chemotherapy. I mean, come on. Or maybe it’s just an alien implant…
- Children Cannot Pray in Schools: So this one has been around since the 70’s. Fun fact: students CAN pray in schools. Pretty much anytime they want, as long as it doesn’t disrupt class or learning. Because the reason they are in school is to learn. The only restriction on prayer is that a teacher cannot compel the students to pray. And you should be thankful for that. Not all of your student’s teachers practice your faith.
