Idolatry in evangelical America

This image has been circulating in social media circles. I cannot find who first created it, so this article isn’t behind a paywall.

I saw this image on one of my Christian friend’s feeds. Thankfully, she was criticizing it. I had to look twice; I couldn’t believe it. Not only is this a badly done derivative of another work, but it also depicts Trump as Jesus and Lady Liberty as the one sinking. In case there was any doubt about the blasphemy in this image, Jesus’ words are there, added as part of the derivative: “Fear not; I am with you.”

Gross.

Of course, I shared it and added my own disgust. And the 6 friends of mine who commented were equally appalled. I had a lot of friends who didn’t comment, and I am sure some of them didn’t because — quite frankly — they didn’t really see anything wrong.

I wish I had the screenshots of all the ranting this one lady did - both at the original person who criticized this image and anyone else who deemed it terrible. She worshipped Trump and eventually blocked us all after scolding us for using emojis that held “demons of mocking and discouragement.” Yeah…sometimes I get why a whole lot of people roll their eyes at Christianity.

I have seen a very disturbing trend since 2016 of Christians elevating politics and political involvement over Christ and what HE says we should be about. They will wrap it in “standing for the truth,” throw out that…
