I am coming soon. Hold fast what you have, so that no one may seize your crown.
~ Revelation 3:11, ESV

This is the first in a series of four articles attempting to clarify and shed light on the truth and understanding of Christ’s return.

Introduction

Recently, I made a comment on an inaccurate and somewhat bizarre article about the return of Jesus. I had a surprisingly amenable conversation with another commenter. No one had ever really tried to explain to them the context of Jesus' return, and they suggested I write an article.

This commenter wasn’t challenging, mocking, or goading — he really wanted to know. It was refreshing and encouraging, to be honest. Since I was fortunate enough to do a deep study of this last fall in a semester-long course, I thought I would attempt to write an easily understandable, in-context article. This isn’t an article designed to prove something about Jesus, His return, or even Christianity. It is simply an in-context explanation taken from the text that explains it best.

If you are interested in what the Bible and Bible-believing Christianity say about the return of Jesus, it is my hope that this article will be informative. I am splitting it into four parts because no one on Medium wants to read…
