In 1944, A movie adaption of Patrick Hamilton’s play, Gas Light, was made starring Ingrid Bergman and Charles Boyer. In it, Ingrid’s character, Paula, begins to believe she may be going crazy when items begin disappearing, things in the house begin moving, and the gas lights brighten and dim at whim.
