I Finally Submitted a Perfect First Draft at Work

And here’s what I learned about myself

Introduction

It finally happened! I submitted a draft of a training module to my supervisor, and he had one comment:

“Looks good.”

I create microlearning for a branch of NASA associated with satellite imagery products and forecasting. I typically use an authoring tool called Articulate. Because of my background, I am good at creating training that meets the stated objectives, is interactive and engaging, and includes various multimedia aspects. It flows well, and the users are positive about the modules and their usefulness. I suppose once a teacher, always a teacher. I’m pretty good at that.

However, there are things I am not good at. I am creative and brainstorm-positive and big-picture-friendly. I know how to think like a learner. However, I am not always good at spotting that typo or making sure that every text box relating to image annotations is in 10-point Arial font instead of 12-point Arial font. Instead of labeling an image “10.35 IR Imagery,” I might accidentally label it “1035 IR Imagery.” For those of you with my brain, I missed the decimal point in the second example. For those of you with my boss’ brain, you caught that right away, didn’t you? If I label the menu items…
