John 3 and Psalm 119: 17–24

Last night, I got up at around 1:00 a.m., plagued by nightmares. I don’t remember them, but I remember how disturbing and dark they felt. For the first time in a while, I had to go into the living room and turn on the light. I made use of the habit I mentioned yesterday — I called to mind scripture after scripture until the heaviness receded and I could sleep again.

I only mention this because any time I really dive deeply into the Bible with the parallel purpose of sharing it, I seem to struggle with nightmares and that heavy feeling. I won’t go too much into what this means to me, but if you are interested, I wrote about it HERE.

I struggled today with whether to continue to talk about John first or switch it up and start with Psalm 119. I know why. It’s because John 3 is pivotal. And I want you to read until the end. However, I’m going to stick with the format.

Nicodemus was a Pharisee. He was part of the religious crowd. I guess you’d call him part of the religious elite. However, he was also searching.
